Canada document attestation in Dubai covers two different processes: preparing documents in Dubai for a Canadian immigration application, and attesting a Canadian document so it can be used here in the UAE. Our in-house notary public handles the notarial steps at our Business Bay office, online, or on a home visit. The steps and the offices involved are different for each direction, so it matters which one applies to you. We prepare certified true copies, notarised translations and signature witnessing for the Canada-bound file, and we handle the UAE attestation chain for Canadian documents that need to work here.

Quick answer

## At a glance

- Two directions: documents going to IRCC for a Canadian application, and Canadian documents coming into the UAE.
- The UAE is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so an apostille from Canada is not accepted here on its own.
- MOFAIC attests documents once they are in the UAE, for AED 150 (personal) or AED 2,000 (commercial).
- The Embassy of Canada in Abu Dhabi handles some consular notarial services for Canadian citizens.
- Signature witnessing for a Canadian form can often be done before a notary public here.

## Two directions, two processes

**Preparing documents for Canada.** If you are applying to IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) from the UAE, you may need certified true copies of your originals, notarised translations of documents not in English or French, or a witnessed signature on a form. This work is usually done here in Dubai before the file is sent to Canada.

**Preparing Canadian documents for UAE use.** If you have a Canadian document, such as a birth certificate or a police clearance certificate, and need it recognised by a UAE authority, it has to go through an attestation chain that ends at MOFAIC once it is in the UAE.

## Certified true copies and notarised translations for immigration files

IRCC applications commonly ask for certified true copies of supporting documents rather than the originals, and for translations of any document not in English or French. A legal translator registered with the UAE Ministry of Justice can produce the translation, and we can prepare the certified true copy alongside it.

## Canadian documents for UAE use: the attestation chain

Canada recently joined the Hague Apostille Convention, which changes how a Canadian document is authenticated at the Canadian end. The UAE is not a party to that Convention, so a document authenticated only that way is not accepted here on its own.

Once a Canadian document reaches the UAE with its Canadian-side authentication complete, MOFAIC attests it here. MOFAIC's fee is AED 150 for a personal document or AED 2,000 for a commercial document.

## What the Embassy of Canada in Abu Dhabi does

The Embassy of Canada in Abu Dhabi provides consular services to Canadian citizens, which can include some notarial services such as witnessing signatures on certain Canadian government forms. For document types the embassy does not handle, or where a UAE-based option is more practical, our in-house notary public can handle the equivalent here.

## Signature witnessing for Canadian forms

Some Canadian forms ask for a signature to be witnessed by a specific type of official, such as a commissioner of oaths, while others accept a notary public's witnessing. We check the form's own requirements with you before your appointment with our in-house notary public, so the signature is witnessed in a way the receiving office will accept.

Fees

## Cost and timing

MOFAIC's own attestation fee for a Canadian document used in the UAE is AED 150 for a personal document or AED 2,000 for a commercial document. Certified copies, translations and witnessing carry their own costs on top.

Timing depends on which direction your documents are travelling and how many stages are involved.

How we help

## How we help

There are three ways to get the notarial step done with us: in person at our Business Bay office with our in-house notary public, through our online notary public services, or on a home visit. We prepare certified true copies and notarised translations for Canada-bound immigration files, witness signatures with our in-house notary public, and manage the UAE side of attestation for Canadian documents, including the MOFAIC appointment. Our in-house notary public checks identity and applies the seal for the notarial steps, and MOFAIC applies its own; we make sure your file reaches them complete.

FAQ

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I get Canadian immigration documents notarised in Dubai?

Bring your original document to us and we will confirm whether it needs a certified true copy, a notarised translation, or a witnessed signature, then our in-house notary public handles it here.

### How do I get a certified true copy of a Canadian passport in the UAE?

We can prepare a certified true copy of your Canadian passport for an immigration file. See our [certified true copy](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/certified-true-copy-attestation-in-dubai/) page for the general process; the same applies to a passport copy.

### Can Canadian immigration documents be notarised online?

### How do I attest a Canadian birth certificate for use in Dubai?

The certificate needs Canadian-side authentication, then attestation at the UAE embassy or consulate in Canada, then MOFAIC attestation once it is in the UAE. We manage the UAE side and can guide you on the rest.

### Do I need degree attestation for Canadian immigration?

IRCC applications sometimes require an educational credential assessment or certified copies of degree documents rather than the full UAE-style attestation chain. For UAE-bound degree attestation, see our [degree certificate attestation for the UAE](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/degree-certificate-attestation-uae/) page.

### Who can witness a signature on a Canadian form in Dubai?

It depends on what the form itself asks for. Some accept a notary public's witnessing; others ask for a specific Canadian official. See our [witnessing of a signature](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/witnessing-of-signature-in-dubai/) page for how that process works here.
