Avoid these ## Common mistakes that cause delays - **Bringing a photocopy** of an ID document instead of the original. - **Signing a power of attorney before the notary appointment.** The notary needs to witness the signature. - **Assuming a document notarised in the UAE is automatically valid abroad** without the attestation and, where relevant, embassy steps that follow it. - **Asking for an apostille.** The UAE does not accept apostilles: it is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so the document needs attestation instead. - **Leaving translation to the last minute** when the notary requires an Arabic version prepared by a legal translator registered with the Ministry of Justice. The content can be drafted by hand in some cases, but most notaries and authorities expect a typed document so the wording is clear and unambiguous. In some cases, yes, through the Ministry of Justice E-Notary system or by using a power of attorney to authorise someone in the UAE to act for you.
