Indian notary attestation in Dubai covers two different directions: a document you sign here that needs to work in India, such as a power of attorney for property, and an Indian document that needs to work in the UAE, such as a birth or marriage certificate. For the Dubai side, our in-house notary public notarises your document at our Business Bay office, online, or on a home visit. Neither direction uses an apostille, because the UAE has not joined the Hague Apostille Convention, so both routes run through notarisation, ministry attestation and, in most cases, the Indian consulate.

Notary Services Dubai prepares and notarises your documents and guides you through the consular or MOFAIC attestation your document needs, in either direction. This page sits under our wider [document attestation in Dubai](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/documents-attestation-in-dubai/) service.

Quick answer

## Quick answer

- Documents signed in Dubai for use in India, such as a POA for property or a bank matter, are generally notarised here, then attested by MOFAIC, then attested by the Indian consulate in the UAE.
- Indian documents for use in the UAE generally need an Indian state or HRD step, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) attestation, UAE embassy attestation in India, and then MOFAIC attestation once the document reaches the UAE.
- India is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, but the UAE is not, so a document moving into the UAE cannot use an apostille; it needs the full attestation chain instead.
- You will generally need your passport, Emirates ID and, for property or NRI matters, your OCI card or PAN details.
- Cost and timing depend on the document and which consulate step applies.

## Two directions, two different chains

It helps to think of this as two separate routes rather than one process, because the starting point, the authorities involved and the order of steps are different each way.

**Dubai to India.** You sign a document here, for example a power of attorney so a family member can manage property or a bank account in India on your behalf. The document is notarised in the UAE, then attested by MOFAIC, then attested by the Indian consulate in the UAE, before it is sent to India for use.

**India to UAE.** A document already issued in India, such as a birth, marriage or degree certificate, needs to be recognised here. It generally needs attestation at the Indian state or HRD level first, then by India's Ministry of External Affairs, then by the UAE embassy or consulate in India, and finally by MOFAIC once it reaches the UAE.

## Power of attorney for property or bank matters in India

A power of attorney is one of the most common documents Indian nationals in Dubai need prepared and attested, usually to let a relative sell property, manage a bank account or handle a legal matter in India without the principal travelling.

1. **Drafting.** We prepare the power of attorney with the specific powers you want to grant, matching what the receiving authority in India, such as a sub-registrar or bank, expects.
2. **Notarisation.** The POA is signed before a notary public or private notary in the UAE, who confirms your identity and applies the seal.
3. **MOFAIC attestation.** We submit the notarised POA for MOFAIC attestation.
4. **Consulate attestation.** The Indian consulate attests the document before it is sent to India.
5. **Use in India.** Once attested, the POA can generally be used for the transaction it names, though some Indian authorities have their own stamp duty or registration requirements once the document arrives.

For the UAE side of drafting and notarising a POA in general, see our [power of attorney in Dubai](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/power-of-attorney-in-dubai/) page. For the attestation chain itself, see [power of attorney attestation in Dubai](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/poa-attestation-in-dubai/).

## Indian certificates for use in the UAE

Birth, marriage and educational certificates issued in India generally need to pass through several Indian authorities before MOFAIC will attest them here:

1. **State or HRD attestation** , depending on the document type and the state that issued it.
2. **Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) attestation** , the central Indian government step.
3. **UAE embassy attestation in India.**
4. **MOFAIC attestation** , once the document arrives in the UAE.

Each certificate type has its own detail. See our pages on [degree certificate attestation](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/degree-certificate-attestation-uae/) and [marriage certificate attestation](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/marriage-certificate-attestation-uae/) for what each one specifically needs. We can guide you through the Indian-side steps and manage the UAE end once the document reaches us.

## What to bring

- **Passport** , valid, for identity verification at notarisation and consulate stages.
- **Emirates ID** , if you are a UAE resident.
- **OCI card or PAN details** , where the document relates to property, investment or an NRI banking matter in India.
- **The original document** you need attested, plus copies where requested.

## Common mistakes that delay attestation

A few avoidable problems come up often with Indian document attestation and cause the biggest delays.

- **Skipping the state or HRD step.** MEA will not attest a certificate that has not already passed state or HRD attestation, so sending a document straight to MEA usually gets it sent back.
- **Name spelling mismatches.** A difference between how your name appears on the Indian certificate and on your passport or Emirates ID can hold up attestation until it is corrected or explained.
- **Missing originals.** Consulate and MOFAIC attestation generally need the original certificate, not a photocopy, at least at some stage in the chain.
- **Assuming an apostille will work.** An Indian document apostilled under the Hague Convention still needs the full attestation chain to be accepted in the UAE, because the UAE side does not recognise an apostille in place of it.

We check your document against these common issues before submitting it, so it is not rejected partway through the chain.

Fees

## Cost and timing

Consulate attestation fees are set by the Indian consulate itself and are separate from UAE notarisation and MOFAIC fees. MOFAIC attestation for a personal document is AED 150.

How we help

## How we help

There are three ways to get the notarial step done with us: in person at our Business Bay office with our in-house notary public, through our online notary public services, or on a home visit. Notary Services Dubai prepares your power of attorney or supporting documents, our in-house notary public notarises them, and we guide you through the MOFAIC and consulate attestation steps in either direction. MOFAIC and the Indian consulate each carry out their own attestation independently. Where a document needs Indian-side steps before it reaches us, such as state or MEA attestation in India, we tell you what to arrange there and what to send us once it is done.

FAQ

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I make a power of attorney in Dubai for use in India?

You have the power of attorney drafted with the specific powers needed, sign it before a notary public or private notary in the UAE, then have it attested by MOFAIC and the Indian consulate before sending it to India. We prepare the document, our in-house notary public notarises it, and we guide you through each step.

### Can Indian documents be notarised in Dubai?

A UAE notary notarises signatures and copies made here; an Indian document that was signed and issued in India needs to follow its own Indian attestation chain, not UAE notarisation, before it is recognised in the UAE. If you need a fresh document such as an affidavit prepared in Dubai for Indian use, that can be notarised here as part of the Dubai to India route.

### Can I get Indian notary services online from Dubai?

The steps that must physically happen in Dubai, such as notarisation before a notary public, generally require your presence.

### How does the Indian consulate in Dubai attest documents?

The Indian consulate attests documents that have already been notarised in the UAE and attested by MOFAIC, confirming the document for use in India.

### How do I get an Indian marriage certificate attested for the UAE?

An Indian marriage certificate generally needs state or HRD attestation, then Ministry of External Affairs attestation, then UAE embassy attestation in India, then MOFAIC attestation once it reaches the UAE. See our [marriage certificate attestation](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/marriage-certificate-attestation-uae/) page for the full process.

### How do I cancel a power of attorney I gave in India?

Cancelling a power of attorney given in India is generally handled under Indian law and procedure, through the authority where the original document was registered. For a POA signed in the UAE, see our [cancelling a power of attorney](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/cancel-power-of-attorney-in-dubai/) page.

### What is a special power of attorney in India?

A special power of attorney limits the agent to a specific task or transaction, such as selling one property or managing one bank account, rather than granting broader authority. Our [special power of attorney](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/special-power-of-attorney-dubai/) page covers how this works when the document is drafted and signed in Dubai.
