If you need a document notarised in Dubai and do not want to sit in a Dubai Courts queue, private notary services in Dubai are the alternative. Notary Services Dubai offers them directly: our in-house notary public notarises your document at our Business Bay office, online, or on a home visit, and we prepare and check the document first. In Dubai, a private notary is a lawyer licensed by Dubai Courts to carry out notarial acts, working from a private office rather than the government notary counter.

This page covers what a private notary can and cannot do, how the process works, what to bring, what shapes the cost, and where a private notary is not the right route.

Quick answer

## At a glance

- A private notary in Dubai is a lawyer licensed by Dubai Courts to act as a notary.
- We provide private notary services in person at our Business Bay office with our in-house notary public, online, or on a home visit.
- Private notaries in Dubai handle powers of attorney, affidavits, declarations, contracts and certified copies, among other instruments.
- Notarisation under UAE law is regulated by Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, and in Dubai by Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013.
- Some matters still have to go through Dubai Courts, a government department or another authority; we will tell you if yours is one of them.
- Fees follow a set federal schedule plus a private notary's professional fee.

## What a private notary in Dubai is

A private notary is not a separate legal category from a notary public. Under Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013 concerning Notaries Public in the Emirate of Dubai, Dubai runs two channels: the government notary public service inside Dubai Courts, and a roll of licensed private notaries who are lawyers authorised by Dubai Courts to perform the same notarial acts from their own offices. Nationally, notarial acts are regulated by Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022 on the regulation of the notary profession.

In practice, this means a document signed and sealed by a licensed private notary carries the same legal weight as one signed at the Dubai Courts notary public counter. The difference is where you do it, and often when.

If you are trying to work out which of the two routes fits your situation, our [private notary vs public notary comparison](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/public-vs-private-notary/) sets it out side by side. For background on the government service itself, see [notary public in Dubai](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/notary-public-dubai/).

## What we do and what our notary does

We prepare your document, and our in-house notary public carries out the notarial act, in person at our Business Bay office, online, or on a home visit.

What we handle:

- Reviewing your document before the appointment, so it is complete and in the right form.
- Telling you if the document also needs another authority, such as Dubai Courts, MOFAIC attestation, or a lawyer.
- Setting your appointment time at our office, online or at your home, and preparing supporting paperwork such as a legal translation where the notary requires one.
- Coordinating any follow-on step, such as MOFAIC attestation, if your document is going abroad.

What our in-house notary public does:

- Checks your identity and, where relevant, the identity of any other signatory or your Power of Attorney agent.
- Confirms you understand and are signing (or acknowledging) the document freely.
- Witnesses the signature, or certifies the copy, and applies the notarial seal and certificate.
- Keeps the notarial record required by law.

## Documents private notaries in Dubai handle

Private notaries carry out the same range of notarial acts as the government notary public service. Commonly notarised documents include:

- Powers of attorney, general and special (see our [power of attorney in Dubai](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/power-of-attorney-in-dubai/) guide for the different types)
- Affidavits and statutory declarations
- Acknowledgement of debt and acknowledgement of cash receipt
- Commercial and personal contracts
- Certified true copies of documents such as passports, Emirates ID or degree certificates
- Company documents, including memoranda of association and board resolutions
- Witnessing of signature on an existing document

## Private notary or Dubai Courts notary

Both routes produce a legally valid notarised document under the same Dubai and federal law. The practical differences are usually appointment availability, location and how the process feels rather than the legal outcome. We cover the comparison in full, including when each one suits you better, on our [private notary vs public notary](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/public-vs-private-notary/) page.

## Hours and appointment options

Private notary offices in Dubai are not government departments, and some offer appointment times outside typical Dubai Courts counter hours. Office open Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. WhatsApp and online requests answered 24/7. We confirm your appointment time with you when you book.

## What to bring and how to prepare

Before your appointment, have ready:

1. **Original identification.** Emirates ID for residents, passport for visitors, plus a photocopy of each.
2. **The document itself** , in its final form. A private notary notarises what is put in front of them; changes after the fact usually mean a new appointment.
3. **Proof of authority** , if you are signing on behalf of someone else or a company, such as a trade licence and a board resolution.
4. **All signatories present** , unless the document allows for a Power of Attorney agent to sign instead.
5. **A legal translation** , if your document is not in Arabic. Notarised instruments are generally drawn up or translated into Arabic, and translations used for official purposes must come from a legal translator registered with the UAE Ministry of Justice.

Documents that arrive incomplete, signed in advance where a live signature is required, or without the right supporting paperwork are the most common reason an appointment has to be rebooked. We check for these gaps before your appointment.

Fees

## Fees: what shapes the cost

Notarial fees in the UAE follow a federal schedule set out in Cabinet Resolution No. 19 of 2024, in force from 16 March 2024. Under that schedule, execution or notarisation of a general or special power of attorney is AED 100 per party, authenticating a signature on an instrument of unspecified value is AED 200 per party, and executing and notarising an affidavit is AED 300. Under the federal schedule, a private notary may add a professional fee of up to 30 percent on top of the base fee. Private notary fees in Dubai are set separately, and we confirm the current fee when you book.

Dubai's private notary fees are also set out in a separate Dubai Courts decision. Our own service fee for preparing your document is separate from the notary's fee.

How we help

## How we help

Notary Services Dubai provides private notary services in three ways: in person at our Business Bay office with our in-house notary public, through our online notary public services, or on a home visit. In practice, that means: you send us the document or tell us what you need, we tell you whether it also needs Dubai Courts, MOFAIC or another authority, and we prepare, draft and translate the paperwork. You bring your original ID and the document, and our in-house notary public checks your ID, witnesses your signature and applies the seal. If your document then needs MOFAIC attestation for use abroad, we take care of that step too.

FAQ

## Frequently asked questions

### What is a private notary?

A private notary is a lawyer licensed by Dubai Courts to carry out notarial acts, such as witnessing signatures and certifying documents, from a private office rather than the Dubai Courts notary public counter. The legal effect of the notarisation is the same either way.

### Is a private notary document in Dubai accepted the same way as a Dubai Courts one?

Yes. A document notarised by a licensed private notary carries the same legal standing as one notarised at the Dubai Courts notary public service, because both operate under the same Dubai and federal notary law. Authorities accept either, provided the notary was properly licensed to act.

### What documents can a private notary in Dubai notarise?

Private notaries commonly notarise powers of attorney, affidavits, declarations, acknowledgements of debt, contracts, and certified copies of documents, along with company paperwork such as board resolutions.

### Are private notaries in Dubai open on weekends?

Appointment days and hours vary by notary office. Office open Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. WhatsApp and online requests answered 24/7. We confirm your appointment time when you book.

### How much does a private notary in Dubai cost?

The federal base fee for common notarial acts, such as AED 100 per party for a power of attorney or AED 300 for an affidavit, is set by Cabinet Resolution No. 19 of 2024, and a private notary can add a professional fee of up to 30 percent on top. See our page on [notary fees in Dubai](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/notary-services-fees-in-dubai/) for more detail.

### Can a private notary notarise a power of attorney?

Yes. Powers of attorney, both general and special, are one of the most common documents private notaries in Dubai handle. Our [power of attorney in Dubai](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/power-of-attorney-in-dubai/) page explains the types and what each one covers.

### Which documents still have to go to Dubai Courts or another authority?

Some matters sit outside what a private notary can do, and some routes, such as DIFC matters, run through a different notary service entirely. Tell us what you need and we will tell you where it has to go before you book anything.

More answers, grouped by topic, are on our [questions and answers page](https://notaryservicesdubai.com/faq/).
