What true copy attestation is, and who can certify a copy for Sharjah use

A certified true copy is a copy that a notary public or licensed private notary has physically compared against the original document and confirmed matches it exactly, then stamped and signed. That authority sits with notaries across the UAE, so a document does not need to be certified inside Sharjah itself to be accepted for Sharjah use, as long as the notary carrying out the certification is properly licensed.

A plain photocopy, however clear, is not the same thing. Sharjah universities, employers and authorities that ask for a “certified true copy” want the notarial stamp confirming it was checked, not just a clean scan.

University certificates and transcripts

Students at the University of Sharjah, the American University of Sharjah and other institutions in the emirate are regularly asked for certified true copies of their degree certificates and transcripts, whether for further study abroad, an employer, or a licensing body. The original certificate is compared page by page against the copy, so a transcript with several pages needs every page presented, not just the summary page.

Visa, police and other personal documents

Certified true copies of a passport or Emirates ID are commonly requested for Sharjah visa files, tenancy contracts and bank account opening, in the same way as elsewhere in the UAE. A Sharjah Police certificate of good conduct can also be certified as a true copy once it has been issued, for submission alongside the original wherever it is needed.

Company papers for Sharjah businesses

Companies registered in Sharjah, including those in its free zones, sometimes need certified copies of a trade licence, memorandum of association or board resolution for a bank, a supplier or a government department that prefers not to hold the original on file. Ajman

Ajman does not run a separate true copy attestation system. Residents and businesses in Ajman use the same notary public and private notary route as Sharjah and the rest of the UAE for certifying a copy.
