Child travel and NOC
NOC Letter From Your Sponsor in the UAE
A NOC letter from sponsor is a written statement from your employer, husband, father, or landlord confirming they have no objection to something you want to do, such as taking a second job, starting a business, or having your child sponsored on a visa. Where it needs notarising, our in-house notary public does this at our Business Bay office, online, or on a home visit. It is one of the most requested documents in the UAE, and one of the most inconsistently understood, because what counts as “enough” depends entirely on who is asking for it.

Quick answer
At a glance
- A NOC letter from sponsor can come from an employer, a husband, a father, or a landlord, depending on what it is for.
- It must be on letterhead (for a company) or clearly identify the issuer, state exactly what they do not object to, and be signed.
- Some authorities accept a signed letter on letterhead; others ask for it to be notarised.
- A notarised NOC carries a notary public’s seal and signature, not just the issuer’s signature.
- If the NOC goes abroad, it may also need MOFAIC and embassy attestation.

This page sets out who issues a NOC, what it needs to say for the most common situations, when it needs to be notarised rather than just signed, and how we draft and notarise it.
What a NOC is, and who issues it
No Objection Certificate is the formal name; “no objection letter” means the same thing. It is written consent from whoever has an interest in stopping you from doing something, stating plainly that they do not object.
- An employer issues a NOC when a current or former employee needs to show their job status does not conflict with something new, such as a second job or a new employer’s visa process.
- A husband issues a NOC most often so his wife can work, or so their child can be sponsored by the mother instead of him.
- A father issues a NOC so the mother can sponsor their child’s residence visa, or so the child can travel or renew a passport without him present. See our dedicated page on the NOC for a child visa in the UAE for that specific letter.
- A landlord occasionally issues a NOC confirming a tenant can use a residential address for a trade licence or other registration.
Common uses for a NOC letter from sponsor
- New job or second job. An employee applying for an additional part time role, or moving employer, may be asked for a NOC from their current sponsor confirming there is no conflict with their existing contract or trade licence.
- A spouse working. Some employers ask a working wife to provide her husband’s NOC as part of onboarding, even though it is not a universal legal requirement.
- Child visa sponsorship. When a mother wants to sponsor her child’s residence visa and the father is UAE resident, his NOC is generally requested. See NOC for a child visa in the UAE. A related but different document is consent for a child to travel without one or both parents; our page on child travel consent in the UAE covers that scenario, including when grandparents or other relatives are travelling with the child.
- Travel. A NOC from an employer or sponsor can support a travel or exit request in specific circumstances.
- Bank applications. Some banks ask for a sponsor’s NOC as part of account opening or credit checks for certain employment categories.
Format and sample wording
Every NOC letter, whatever the issuer, needs the same core elements: who is writing it, who it concerns, exactly what they consent to, and a signature. The wording differs by who is issuing it.
Sponsor or employer NOC
On company letterhead. This is to certify that [employee full name], holding passport number [number] and Emirates ID [number], is employed with [company name] as [position]. We confirm we have no objection to [state exactly what: the employee taking up part time employment with X / the employee’s visa transfer to a new sponsor / etc.]. Signed: [authorised signatory name and designation]. Company stamp. Date.
Husband to wife NOC
I, [husband’s full name], holder of passport number [number] and Emirates ID [number], confirm that I have no objection to my wife, [wife’s full name], holder of passport number [number], [state exactly what: taking up employment in the UAE / sponsoring our child, [child’s name], on her residence visa]. Signed. Date.
Father to mother NOC for a child
I, [father’s full name], holder of passport number [number], being the father of [child’s full name], confirm that I have no objection to [child’s full name] being sponsored on a UAE residence visa by their mother, [mother’s full name]. Signed. Date.
These are structures to work from, not final legal wording. We draft the exact letter for your situation, in the phrasing the receiving authority expects.
When a NOC must be notarised, and when a signed letter is enough
This depends entirely on who is asking for it. Some authorities and employers accept a signed letter on official letterhead as sufficient. Others, especially anything relating to a child’s visa sponsorship, court process, or an authority outside the UAE, ask specifically for a notarised NOC, meaning it carries a notary public’s seal and signature as well as the issuer’s own signature.
If your NOC needs to go before Dubai Courts or be notarised for use with a foreign authority, our step by step guide on how to get a NOC notarised through Dubai Courts covers who attends, what to bring, and embassy attestation.
What makes a NOC get rejected
A NOC is a simple document, but it is rejected more often than people expect, usually for the same handful of reasons. The wording is too vague, for example saying “no objection” without stating exactly what is being consented to. The issuer’s details do not match their ID exactly, a mismatched passport number or a name spelled differently to the identity document. There is no stamp on a company NOC, or the signatory is not the person authorised to sign on the company’s behalf. The letter is undated, or it is presented in English only when the receiving authority wants it in Arabic or bilingual. Getting the wording, the signatory, and the language right the first time avoids a second trip to the sponsor for a corrected letter.
Documents that usually go with it
- Passport copy and Emirates ID of the person issuing the NOC.
- Passport copy of the person the NOC concerns.
- Trade licence copy, if the issuer is a company.
- Marriage certificate, for a husband to wife NOC.
- Birth certificate, for a NOC concerning a child.
- Any application form or reference number from the receiving authority, if one has been issued.
Getting a NOC notarised through Dubai Courts
If your situation calls for a notarised NOC rather than a plain letterhead letter, the notarisation itself follows the same process regardless of who is issuing it: the letter is drafted, translated into Arabic where needed by a legal translator registered with the Ministry of Justice, and the issuer signs it in person before a notary public, who checks their ID and applies the seal. Our page on how to get a NOC notarised through Dubai Courts walks through each step, what to bring, and what happens if the NOC needs to be used abroad.
How we help
How we help

There are three ways to get it notarised with us: in person at our Business Bay office with our in-house notary public, through our online notary public services, or on a home visit. We draft the NOC letter in the correct wording for the specific authority it is going to, whether that is an employer letterhead letter, a husband’s or father’s consent letter, or a document that needs full notarisation. Where notarisation is needed, we prepare the Arabic translation through a legal translator registered with the Ministry of Justice, and our in-house notary public checks ID, witnesses the signature and applies the seal. Where the NOC needs to travel further, we also take care of MOFAIC attestation.
For corporate NOCs and board authorisations, see our corporate notary services page. If your document needs attestation for use abroad, see documents attestation in Dubai. For background on the notary public system itself, see notary public Dubai.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is a NOC letter in the UAE?
A NOC, or No Objection Certificate, is a written statement from someone with an interest in a matter, such as an employer, husband, father or landlord, confirming they do not object to a specific action, such as a job change, a spouse working, or a child’s visa sponsorship.
How do I get a NOC from my sponsor in Dubai?
You request it in writing from the person or company acting as your sponsor, explaining exactly what you need it for. They draft and sign it, usually on letterhead if it is a company. If the receiving authority requires notarisation, the signed letter then needs to be taken to a notary public.
What should a NOC letter from a sponsor say?
It should name the issuer and the person it concerns, state exactly what the issuer does not object to, and be dated and signed. A company NOC should be on letterhead with an authorised signatory and company stamp.
Does a NOC letter need to be notarised or attested?
It depends on who is asking for it. Some accept a signed letterhead letter; others, particularly for child visa sponsorship or use outside the UAE, ask for notarisation and possibly MOFAIC and embassy attestation.
Can a husband give a NOC for his wife to work in the UAE?
Yes, a husband can issue a NOC confirming he has no objection to his wife working.
How do I get a NOC from my employer in the UAE?
You request it from HR or your employer directly, stating what you need it for, such as a second job or a visa transfer. The employer drafts it on letterhead, signs it through an authorised signatory, and applies the company stamp.
Is a NOC required for a tourist visa?
This depends on the applicant’s circumstances and the visa route used.
How do I write a NOC letter to a company?
State clearly who you are, what you are requesting no objection for, and ask for the letter on the company’s letterhead with an authorised signature and stamp. We can draft the request and the letter itself for you.
