Notary Public in Sharjah

A notary public in Sharjah signs off on documents such as a power of attorney, an affidavit or a declaration after checking your identity and witnessing your signature. Our in-house notary public can do this at our Business Bay office in Dubai or through our online notary public services, and a document notarised in Dubai is generally valid in Sharjah. Unlike Dubai, which runs its own Dubai Courts notary system alongside a roll of licensed private notaries, Sharjah follows the federal Ministry of Justice notarial system. This page explains the routes available in Sharjah, what documents they cover, and how Notary Services Dubai serves clients in Sharjah, Ajman and the northern emirates.

If you already have a signed document and only need a copy certified rather than a fresh notarisation, see certified true copy attestation in Sharjah instead.

Quick answer

At a glance

  • Sharjah does not run its own separate notary system the way Dubai does; notarial services there sit under the federal Ministry of Justice framework, including Sharjah Courts.
  • The Ministry of Justice runs the E-Notary System for remote and electronic notarisation across the UAE, including for Sharjah based clients.
  • Licensed private notaries also operate under the same federal law that applies across the UAE.
  • A document notarised in Dubai is generally valid for use in Sharjah, since notarisation is a federal legal act, not an emirate-specific one.
  • Documents travelling abroad after notarisation need MOFAIC attestation as a separate step; there is no apostille route for the UAE.

Sharjah’s notarial system: the federal route

Sharjah’s notary services are administered under Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022 on the regulation of the notary profession, the same federal law that applies across the UAE, rather than under an emirate-specific system like Dubai’s. In practice this means Sharjah Courts and the Ministry of Justice, including its E-Notary System, are the channels most Sharjah residents and businesses use for notarial acts.

Because the underlying legal framework is federal, a document does not have to be notarised inside Sharjah to be valid for use there. Many clients who live or work in Sharjah find it more convenient to have a document notarised in Dubai and then use it in Sharjah without any extra step.

Court notary, private notary and MOJ e-notary

Sharjah residents generally have three routes to a notarised document:

  • Sharjah Courts notary public, the government channel for in-person notarisation.
  • Licensed private notary, where available, typically a lawyer authorised to carry out notarial acts under the same federal law.
  • MOJ E-Notary System, the Ministry of Justice’s electronic and remote notarisation channel, which can suit some document types without an in-person visit.

The three routes lead to the same outcome, a document that is legally notarised, so which one suits you depends on convenience, the document type and whether you can attend in person.

What can be notarised in Sharjah

The documents we most often help Sharjah based clients with are:

  • Powers of attorney, general or special, for property, business or personal matters.
  • Affidavits and declarations, such as a declaration of residency or a sworn statement for a bank, employer or authority.
  • Certified true copies, where a copy needs to be checked against the original and stamped.
  • Signature witnessing, for a document that only needs your signature verified rather than a full notarial act.

Each of these follows the same underlying process wherever in the UAE it is carried out: you sign in front of a notary who confirms your identity and applies the seal.

Documents to bring

For most notarial acts in Sharjah you will need:

  • Your original Emirates ID, or passport if you do not hold an Emirates ID.
  • The document itself, ready to sign, with any papers it references.
  • For a company matter, the trade licence and proof of authority for the person signing.

We confirm the specific list for your document before your appointment.

Fees

Fees for a notary in Sharjah

Notarisation fees depend on the document type and, for instruments above a certain value, the value stated in the document. The federal fee schedule under Cabinet Resolution No. 19 of 2024 sets figures such as AED 100 per party for executing or notarising a general or special power of attorney and AED 300 for executing and notarising an affidavit, though the exact figure that applies depends on which channel handles your document.

Attestation after notarisation

Notarisation confirms your signature and identity. If the document is then going abroad, for example to support a visa, a property matter or a company registration in another country, it usually needs MOFAIC attestation as a separate step. There is no apostille for a document notarised in or for use in the UAE, since the UAE is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention. A document arriving from abroad generally needs attestation in its country of origin first, then MOFAIC attestation once it reaches the UAE.

Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah

Neither Ajman nor Ras Al Khaimah runs a separate notarial system from the federal one that covers Sharjah, so residents and businesses there use the same Ministry of Justice, court notary and MOJ e-notary routes. If you are based in Ajman or Ras Al Khaimah, tell us your document and location and we confirm the most practical option, including our Business Bay office or our online notary public services.
